Your Biobank Samples Are Important!
Biobank samples are crucial for both your future healthcare and a prerequisite for medical research. Biobank samples can be stored after analysis for future healthcare and treatment as well as for research. If you are going to provide a sample or want to learn more about biobank samples, you can find information on Biobank Sweden's website: www.biobanksverige.se
It is always the donor who decides whether a sample may be stored or if the sample should be destroyed. Before changing your consent, it is important that you understand how your future healthcare and treatment may be affected if the sample is no longer available. More information can be found here.
Samples in research sample collections
If you have been asked and given consent to store biobank samples for research, you, as the donor, have the right to change your mind at any time. To withdraw your consent so that your sample is destroyed, contact the responsible researcher. You should be able to find contact information on the information you received when you provided the sample.
U-Can
If you have consented to storing biobank samples in U-Can, you can find more information here.
To change your consent, contact the diagnosis responsible doctor within U-CAN (see list on the consent form), after which your samples will be destroyed or anonymized.
Limitation/Alteration of Consent
Samples stored within healthcare are primarily saved for your own future healthcare, diagnostics, and treatment. Doctors may need to compare a new sample with a previously stored sample. Even routine samples have significant value for medical research. All research on routine biobank samples must undergo scrutiny and be approved by the Ethics Review Authority.
If you, as a donor, want to limit or withdraw your consent for samples taken within healthcare and stored, you can log in to 1177 to change your consent or download a change form here, which you can print and send to:
